When it's hot and no air conditioner, it can be miserable. Learn a few techniques to get by when you don't have air conditioning.
Some people don't have air conditioning. If you are suffering from the heat and don't have access to air conditioning at home, there are a few things that you can do to keep cool. These won't be quite as good as air conditioning, but it's better than nothing.
First of all, consider going out of the house and going to another location. Find a book store or coffee shop that you might be able to spend your time at. These will feel better than sitting at home in the heat.
Get heavy drapes to cover your windows. This will help keep some of the heat out of the house during the day. It will keep the sun light out making your home a bit cooler during the day and during the night.
Be sure to use fans. These will blow heat away from your body and make the room feel about five degrees cooler.
Stay in the lowest levels of your home. Heat rises and the lower levels will be a bit cooler. Consider sleeping on the lower levels as well for a more comfortable night.
Keep a rag on your wrist or neck. This will slightly cool the blood making your whole body feel a bit cooler. This simple technique will make the room feel a few degrees cooler.
Keep all the potential heat sources in your house off. Turn off your pilot light. Keep indoor lighting to a minimum. Be sure to not use your oven for cooking. These will all make the home feel much hotter than it actually could be.
Every few hours take a cold bath or shower. It doesn't have to be a long one. The idea is to chill the body a bit so that you can feel cooler. Using a fan afterwards will help you cool down quite a bit.
